The third LGBTIQ+ Conference – Better Together 2020, will be held in Melbourne at Williamstown Town Hall on 9-11 January 2020. A Trans & Gender Diverse Caucus will also be held for the first time for a full day on 9th January 2020.

The conference aims to explore current issues facing the LGBTIQ+ movement, bringing together voices from indigenous communities, people with a disability, the Deaf community, as well as multicultural and multi-faith communities.

“Our goal is to create a truly intersectional discussion about achieving social and cultural change to create a fairer, more equal and more just Australia,” according to the organiser.

ESTABLISHING MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS

Since its inaugural conference in 2018, Better Together has been attended by over 1,000 people from around Australia, as well as delegates from the US, UK, Canada, Sweden and the Philippines. “This event will facilitate a conversation about LGBTIQ+ rights in Australia, share ideas and experiences, and ask the hard questions,” says the organiser. “It is an opportunity to establish meaningful connections so we can work collaboratively to cultivate positive change.”

Better Together 2020 is an initiative of The Equality Project and supported by the State Government of Victoria, Hobsons Bay City Council, Gandel Philanthropy, Nicholes Family Lawyers, Thorne Harbour Health, Queerspace, Switchboard Victoria, Deakin University, Joy 94.9, Williamstown Psychology Practice and Life Without Barriers.
