Tarmac, the UK’s leading sustainable construction materials, road contracting and building products business, has achieved a globally-recognised accreditation for its commitment to diversity and inclusion (D&I) in the workplace.

The 150 year-old company employing around 7,000 people across a network of over 400 sites, has been awarded the The Clear Assured Bronze Standard. This accreditation, from assessment body The Clear Company, is awarded to businesses that can demonstrate inclusivity and diversity are reflected across all policies and processes. It also marks a move beyond compliance towards a cultural shift.

FAIR CULTURE & OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL

Commenting on the award, Louise Houston, Head of inclusion and diversity, for Tarmac, stated: “We’re proud to have reached the high standards required for the Bronze Standard. The achievement is an acknowledgment of the efforts of all our employees and leaders, underpinned by an ambition to foster and celebrate a fair and supportive culture that promotes opportunities for all – where everyone feels proud to be themselves.”

“This independent verification shows that we’re heading in the right direction, with the foundations in place for us to build upon,” added Houston.

SUPPORTING THE INCLUSION JOURNEY

“Committing to the Clear Assured Standard requires a real focus to work and think differently,” commented Head of Clear Assured, Anna Mäkinen. “Clear Assured is a rigorous standard based on continuous improvement; by reaching Bronze Standard Tarmac have already demonstrated their ability to instigate change and develop a culture where inclusion and diversity is business as usual.”

The global leader in inclusive recruitment and talent management insight, training and technology in the UK, was established in 2003, with clients such as Lloyd’s of London, Highways England and Ofcom.

Its flagship D&I audit processes, market leading training and online toolkits provide direction and support to clients’ inclusion journeys at all stages of the employee lifecycle. The team’s understanding of the latest thinking and how to apply it; as well as rigorous processes and the ability to work with all people across an organisation, resulting in tangible change, is particularly valued by clients, said The Clear Company.
