Today, marks Mom’s Equal Pay Day in the US.

Working mothers earn just 75 cents for every dollar paid to White, non Hispanic fathers, according to Catalyst Inc. It’s time for companies to take action and fix the motherhood penalty, points out the non-profit, which is working to build workplaces that work for women.

Companies must act by providing paid family leave; offering childcare benefits which go beyond early childhood; adopting flexible work policies; and closing gender pay gaps. Other organisations like the Institute of Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) are also urging Congress and companies in the US to make changes that will help struggling mothers.

TOP WORRIES FOR WORKING MOMS

IWPR’s latest survey highlights that working moms are continuing to struggle in the US; with 62.8% of mothers worried about making ends meet and having enough income to pay the bills. Additionally, 64.1% of moms are worried about balancing work responsibilities with their own personal and family needs.

Working mothers want and need universal high-quality child care, paid leave, equal pay, and employment that secures their economic stability, noted IWPR. Click here to read more.
