United Airlines has announced that it has once again scooped the ‘Best-of-the-Best’ Award for its ‘industry-leading results across all diverse segments’, as well as its ‘commitment to building a more diverse economy’ from the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) and the National Business Inclusion Consortium (NBIC) in the US.

“This designation is highly competitive and is bestowed only to corporations that we see constantly striving to strengthen and celebrate diversity,” commented NGLCC Co-founder and President Justin Nelson. “These corporations being honoured are true leaders in ongoing global commitments to create a better future for all diverse communities in business.”

INCLUSIVE INITIATIVES

United’s diversity and inclusion (D&I) initiatives include efforts to build a more inclusive workplace and customer experience. Through these initiatives, the airline demonstrates its commitment to engaging with and advocating for the LGBT community, people of colour, women, veterans, people with disabilities and others. This recognition follows the airline’s recent announcement that United became the first US airline to offer non-binary gender options throughout all booking channels, in addition to providing the option to select the title ‘Mx’ during booking and for its MileagePlus customer profile. United customers and employees have the option to identify themselves as M (male), F (female), U (undisclosed) or X (unspecified), corresponding with what is indicated on their passports or identification.

UNITING THE WORLD

Since receiving the Best-of-the-Best honour in 2018, United says it has continued to expand its Business Resource Groups (BRGs) across the US and internationally for employees, adding more chapters for LGBT employees and women, as well as establishing a new BRG for employees with disabilities. It has also hosted a ‘record number of Girls in Aviation Day event’ and ‘continues to lead the industry by employing the highest number of female pilots’, confirms the airline.

United believes that the rich diversity of ideas, experiences and cultures that comes from its 87,000+ strong workforce, which allows the airline to deliver a ‘great’ service to its customers around the globe. “Our fundamental purpose as a company is to connect people and unite the world.
