Neurodiversity Celebration Week

This week educational and business organisations observe Neurodiversity Celebration Week.

Thanks to this event founded in 2018 by Siena Castellon, the dialogue around neurodiversity is changing. Many organisations are now recognising, nurturing and celebrating the many strengths and talents of being neurodiverse.

According to the Department of Education, 15% of students in the United Kingdom have a learning difference. But their ability to fulfil their potential is being threatened by the stigma associated with having a special educational need (SEN), and the misconceptions many people still have about autistic people and people with learning differences. They are also more vulnerable to being mistreated. A 2017 bullying report by Ditch the Label, revealed that 75% of autistic students and 70% of students with learning differences reported being bullied at school.

It is time to create a more inclusive landscape so that SEN students have equal access to education and work opportunities. Both schools and organisations can support SEN students by signing the pledge and registering to take part in some of the events organised this week by clicking here.
