The Centre for Ageing Better and the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) have organised a webinar on how to improve the recruitment of older workers on 30 September 2021.

The UK job market is currently going through dramatic changes, especially due to the impacts of Covid-19 and Brexit; with reports of shortages in many sectors. In addition to giving older workers a fair chance to progress, age-friendly recruitment could be an important strategy for employers; by tapping into an experienced, diverse workforce.

REDUCING AGE BIAS

Last year, the Centre for Ageing Better launched the “Good Recruitment for Older Workers” (GROW) research programme to explore ways to reduce age bias and discrimination in the recruitment process. Drawing on research completed for the Centre for Ageing Better, this event explores ways to reduce age bias within the recruitment process.

This event will present the findings of the three research projects completed to date. The presentations (from NIESR, Demos, Institute for Employment Studies and the Behavioural Insights Team researchers) will explore the recruitment of older workers; both from the perspective of employers and workers. It will also explore the impact of language in job adverts. This event is for employers, recruiters, HR practitioners, policymakers and labour market researchers.

TOP SPEAKERS

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Beth Mason (Institute for Employment Studies): The current and future recruitment landscape for older workers.
  • Johnny Runge (NIESR): Older workers’ own experiences of recruitment
  • Johannes Lohmann (Behavioural Insights Team): The impact of language in job adverts on older workers.
  • Kim Chaplain (Centre for Ageing Better): Lessons and way forward.

The webinar will conclude with a Q&A session with the speakers and the panel. Click here for more information about the event.
