The annual BAME (black, Asian, minority ethnic) into Leadership Conference will take place across 4 UK locations this year. The first one will be held in Edinburgh on 21st February 2019, followed by Leeds (7th March 2019), Birmingham (25th July 2019) and London (11th September 2019).
Now in its ninth year, the BAME into Leadership conference has established itself as a key event for those interested in enhancing the capabilities and leadership opportunities for BAME civil servants.
Drawing on the strengths from the 2018 events, this year’s conference will centre on driving professional development and change. According to the conference organisers, its aim is to ensure that the Civil Service ‘doesn’t lose momentum in recruiting, retaining and rewarding BAME leaders’.
Delegates will get to learn valuable strategies on how to manage the challenges of modern leadership. The events will also provide hands-on advice, practical tips and coaching on how to adapt to new environments, expand networks, and effectively further their career in times of change.
ADVICE FROM INSPIRATIONAL SPEAKERS
Attendees will hear from senior BAME civil servants and leaders on how to succeed, with advice on how to overcome barriers, build networks and become the leaders they aspire to be. Thanks to the long list of inspirational speakers of all grades and levels, both within and outside the Civil Service, delegates will be able to examine the barriers and enablers that affect their progression, and receive advice and coaching for their professional development, as well as gain a deeper understanding of the skills, qualities and competencies required to be a successful leader.
Some of the many speakers include Anas Sarwar MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Glasgow Region; Bernadette Thompson, Co-Chair of Race to the Top G6/7 Network; Rob Neil OBE, Head of Project Race at the Ministry of Justice; Uzma Khan, Deputy Director, Economic Strategy, Scottish Government; and Mushtaq Raj MBE, People Lead at the Home Office.
