The Diversity in Tech Awards, which celebrates the best in tech, revealed 2020’s winners at its virtual ceremony yesterday.
In association with Microsoft for Startups, the Diversity in Tech Awards shine the spotlight on organisations creating a more diverse workplace, while striving to narrow the gender gap in the technology sector. The event used to be known as the Women in Tech Awards, but the organiser changed the name and expanded the categories this year to recognise diversity in all of its forms.
In recognising the broad efforts of promoting diversity in the workplace, the awards are now split into two category areas; Diversity in Tech and Women in Tech.
CELEBRATING ALL FORMS OF DIVERSITY
The Diversity in Tech categories include awards for role models in tech, LGBTQ+ inclusion, social mobility, disability inclusion, cultural inclusion, generational inclusion and health and wellness. They now also include An overall International Company of the Year and Special Recognition Award categories.
The Women in Tech categories include a focus on tech leadership, entrepreneurship, digital transformation, mentorship and data science, confirmed the organiser. At this year’s awards, there was also a special recognition award for women who have made their mark in innovation, named after pioneering US computer scientist Grace Hopper. Hopper was one of the first programmers to work on the Harvard Mark 1, the world’s first electromechanical computer.
