Queer Student Awards

The Queer Student Awards (QSAs), celebrating young LGBTQ+ people and allies across the UK, are now open for nominations.

Launched in 2021, by diversity, equity and inclusion and early careers consultant Steve Keith, the QSAs celebrate inspirational young LGBTQ+ people in the UK. They also honour individuals, employers and educational institutions that provide them with the support and safe spaces they need to thrive and reach their potential regardless of their sexuality and gender identity.

The awards are judged by a panel of student recruitment industry experts, queer influencers and young LGBTQ+ people who have previously been shortlisted or named winners in the last two years.

CELEBRATING PAST WINNERS

Grace Armstrong, of Northumbria Student Union, who was last year’s winner of the ‘Queer of the Year’ Grace Armstrong, was also awarded ‘Activist of the Year’ at the first hybrid live final held in Manchester.

“The Queer Student Awards are something that has changed my life. I feel so empowered – they have allowed me to be recognised for my achievements in supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Beyond the awards in 2022 I have been able to meet some great queer activists, which I engage with regularly and I have been involved in the Proud To Be Queer podcast,” stated Armstrong. “I’m also supporting the planning and delivery of this year’s event, allowing me to input on something that has grown to be really close to my heart. The QSAs have been a big part of building my confidence and self esteem, as well as creating valuable connections within the LGBTQ+ community.”
