Women in STEM

Three of Australia’s diversity and inclusion (D&I) organisations have joined forces to launch the inaugural Women in STEM Inspiring the Next Generation.

The virtual event, organised by Diversity Practitioners Association, NEEOPA and the Equal Employment Opportunity Network (EEON), will premier on Thursday 25th February 2021; from 12:30pm – 2:00pm (SYD and MEL), and between 11:30am – 1:00pm (QLD).

The event will bring together some of Australia’s thought leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). The panel will explore current and emerging issues and provide practical tips for the workplace, education facilities or entrepreneurial endeavours. Ruth Harrison, Rocket Woman and Aerospace Engineer, and passionate Women in STEM advocate, will be chairing the event.

“We are proud to partner together to bring you a forum discussing women in STEM; and how to tackle the prevailing barriers in creating more gender-equal industries,” stated the organisers. “In this virtual event, we are excited to present some of Australia’s thought leaders and doers in STEM. An expert panel will explore various themes; and provide practical strategies for the workplace, or in your entrepreneurial endeavours.”

KEY WOMEN IN STEM THEMES

Key themes that will be explored at the event include:

  • Attraction and how to inspire the next generation and end under-representation.
  • How to reshape the stories shared about STEM to address enduring myths.
  • Rethinking attraction to grow the pipeline, rather than ‘rob’ one another for great talent.
  • Why women leave STEM – the challenges of underrepresentation and covert discriminatory practices.
  • Practical strategies to make schools, universities and workplaces ready and more inclusive.

This event will be FREE to attend.  The organisers are especially encouraging secondary school and university students to join the event (on Zoom). They want to help spark their imagination of how wide and wonderful the STEM world can be. Click here for more information.
